Paul Enenche, the senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Center, may go to prison for wrongly accusing a woman of falsified testimony.

The woman, Anyim Vera, had climbed the altar at the popular church in Abuja to share her testimony on Sunday.
According to her, she was the first graduate in her family, stating that she obtained a B.Sc in Law.

“I’m the first graduate in my family. My siblings did not get into tertiary institutions due to some reasons. I was supposed to study Law for five years at the National Open University of Nigeria. However, I encountered some challenges that made me have an extra year,” she said.

However, in a turn of events, the clergyman questioned the credibility of her testimony after he inquired to know what kind of “law degree,” to which the lady answered “BSc in Law.”

He said, “The moment she talked about a law degree, I knew there is nothing like ‘law’ in what she was saying. No matter how bad it is, it hasn’t reached that level. Is there any lawyer here with a BSc in Law? Lie testimony, come to stand on the altar to tell lies in the name of testimony.”

Evidence has now emerged online showing that Vera Anyim graduated from the National Open University (NOUN) with a law degree. Photos posted on the walls of her social media pages showed Anyim convocating as a student of NOUN.

Also, Anyim’s name was among the top graduating students on the convocation list published by NOUN University. Amongst those who vouched for Anyim Vera was investigative journalist Deborah Kolawole. This was the post she made to confirm that Anyim is a Law graduate:

After receipts were dug up to prove that Anyim Vera is a law student who graduated from NOUN University, Nigerians called out Pastor Enenche, demanding that he apologize for embarrassing the woman.

Meanwhile…

In 2016, NOUN formally announced the suspension of admissions into its Law program.

The decision, according to its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdallah Adamu, was a sequel to the exclusion of graduates of its Law program by the Council for Legal Education from attending the Nigerian Law School.

He also premised the decision on the advice of the National Universities Commission that students should be stopped from undertaking the course, pending the resolution of the impasse generated by the refusal of the Law School to allow NOUN graduates to attend its program.

However, multiple checks Online revealed that Anyim was a law graduate from the institution.

Anyim, matric number: NOU133971176, and full name: Anyim Veronica Nnenna, paid her first e-facilitation fee, ICT fee, and Library fee at the university on March 21, 2017, at exactly 1:37 p.m.

She did her semester registration on the same date. She also made payment for her compulsory final clearance fee on April 8, 2024, at 12:52 pm.

Further checks revealed that Anyim paid course registration fees for some courses like Law of Evidence, International Law and Diplomacy, Land Law 1 & 2, and Law of Taxation, a few to mention.

Also, on the convocation list sighted by our correspondent, Anyim, whose number stood at 2262, was conferred with LLB Law; she attended classes at the Abuja Model Study Centre and graduated with a Third Class.

Punch spoke with a source in the office of the institution’s Registrar who craved anonymity because of the weight of the matter, he confirmed that Anyim graduated from the institution and that her name was on the graduation list for 2024.

When asked how the woman graduated in 2024, about eight years after the program was suspended, the source maintained that it was possible.

He further stressed that there are people who have spent about 10 years on their program because they are busy with work or other things. He also said that the process of deferring admission to the school is simple, citing the example of a lack of funds leading to the suspension of programs.

Also, a check on the woman’s Facebook page showed that she is a police officer and truly graduated after she wrote, “And it came to pass yesterday 13th April being Saturday, 2024 at National Open University Abuja (sic). Father, I am saying thank you for making me Graduate from my Law program. Congratulations 🎉 to me once again.”

Meanwhile, the church released a statement, explaining the circumstances that suroun
