Accord Party has officially announced the withdrawal of Kennedy Iyere from the Edo governorship race, creating a significant shift in the political landscape as the elections approach.
Joseph Omoregbe, chairman of the party’s Edo chapter, addressed the media on Friday to clarify the situation surrounding Iyere’s departure.
Omoregbe stated that Iyere never intended to represent the party in the upcoming election, despite his earlier success in winning the primaries.
“Kennedy Iyere’s commitment to the party’s vision was questionable from the outset,” he said. “While we appreciate his participation in the primaries, it became clear that his intentions did not align with our goals for the election.”
The chairman emphasized that the party leadership now views Dr. Bright Enabulele as a stronger contender for the governorship position.
Omoregbe praised Enabulele, describing him as a credible candidate with the necessary experience and vision to lead the party effectively.
“Dr. Enabulele embodies the qualities we seek in a leader,” he added. “We believe he can unite our members and present a formidable challenge in the election.”
The withdrawal of Iyere allows the Accord Party to refocus its efforts on winning the poll for Enabulele’s candidacy.
Omoregbe expressed confidence that with Enabulele at the helm, the party can build a robust campaign that resonates with the electorate.
