Luke Fleurs, a South African footballer, has been pronounced dead by his team.
Fleurs, 24, was said to have been shot dead at a petrol station in the late hours of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the Johannesburg suburb of Florida, South Africa.
It was gathered that Fleur was waiting to be attended to when he was accosted by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen, who ordered him to get out of the vehicle.
Following the shooting, one of the suspects fled the scene with Fleurs’ car.
“The suspects pointed [at] him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body,” Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo was quoted as saying.
Remembering Fleurs
South African football mourns the loss of Fleurs, who tragically just passed away. Joining Kaiser Chiefs last year, Fleurs, described by the club as a “classy defender” with impressive technical skills, was seen as a talent on the rise.
Fleurs’ journey began in 2013 when he honed his skills at the Ubuntu Cape Town Academy. While his time with the Kaiser Chiefs was cut short, his earlier performances with SuperSport United showcased his potential.
