Residents of Edo State are expressing growing dissatisfaction with the two-party system, calling for a new government that can address their concerns and bring about meaningful transformation.
Frustration with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) reached a tipping point, prompting citizens to seek alternatives ahead of the forthcoming state election.
Dr. Bright Enabulele, a prominent figure in the Accord Party, a few months ago announced his candidacy for the gubernatorial race, aiming to break the dominance of the PDP and APC in Edo State politics.
Enabulele’s decision to run comes in response to the widespread demand for a fresh leadership approach that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital, Enabulele highlighted the public’s disillusionment with the existing political structure. “The people of Edo State are tired of the same old promises that cannot address social issues, like power, water, and good roads from both the PDP and APC. They are calling for a government that will truly represent their interests and deliver on its commitments,” he said.
In education, Enabulele plans to provide free, quality education on elementary levels to support early childhood development, renovate and build schools, and support teachers with adequate training and compensation. He aims to leverage the legacy of Ambrose Ali which was abandoned 41 years ago to transform the educational sector. For healthcare, he aims to provide adequate healthcare facilities and introduce mobile clinics to ensure access for all.
Addressing infrastructure, Enabulele pledged that we must first ensure that the social issues like water, electricity, and good roads, promised by past governments, are met. These are not luxury, he said, but necessity. “They are the first steps in ensuring prosperity in the land.”
He also promised to eradicate food insecurity in the land by empowering agriculture with advanced modern-day technology.
These, according to him, will make Edo State be the first diaspora city in Nigeria, as he assured of a new digital economy that will attract foreign investments and partnerships in “our land”.
“We must prioritize jobs for our youth, and emphasize on the importance of the rule of law,” he added.
Support for Enabulele’s candidacy has been growing, with many residents expressing hope that his leadership will bring the much-needed solution to the state.
He equally urged Edo State people to vote wisely in the coming election, stating that the power belongs to them.
