Ghana has introduced Africa’s first crypto stamp in honor of the 16th monarch of the country, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The launching and unveiling of the crypto stamp which is the first of its kind in Africa, goes down into the annals of Asanteman, Ghana, and Africa.

The country’s national postal service marked the monarch’s silver jubilee by creating crypto stamps linked to unique nonfungible tokens (NFT) that are verifiable over the blockchain.

Analysts suggest that this action will immortalize the significance of the event on the blockchain, guaranteeing its remembrance for eternity.

Since the issuance of the Ghana Post’s first postal stamps in 1957, a lot have been introduced in honor of individuals and events including Ghana’s Independence, Kwame Nkrumah, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, Yaa Asantewaa and Otumfuo Agyemang-Prempeh.

The current philatelic stamp commemorates the exceptional leadership that has distinguished His Majesty’s rule over the revered Golden Stool for the last 25 years.

The project is a collaborative work between the Ghana Post, the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation, the Office of the President, the GCB Bank PLC, Ghana Gas, and GOIL.

How Many Stamps Was Unveiled?

Five Stamps were unveiled including the Definitive Stamp, the Crypto Stamp, the VIP Stamp, the Royal Stamp Frame, and Post Cards.

The definitive stamp will be used for postage, while the crypto stamp, which is a collector’s item, can be traded as an NFT on the international crypto market and the international NFT market.

For the VIP stamp collection, the MD said it comes with authentication as a limited collector’s item while the Royal stamp frame house is a frame made with 20 grams of gold that can be kept in homes and offices to add beauty and class.

12 different postcards were also introduced and they will be available to the public on sale.

The essence of these stamps, aside from celebrating people, is a major tool for promoting tourism and passing on history to generations.

Ghana NFT Stamps: Bridging Tradition and Technology

These limited-edition Ghana Crypto Stamps, priced at $18 (250 Ghanaian cedi) each, are linked to unique NFTs, verifiable on the blockchain, providing collectors with proof of ownership and authenticity.

Only 7,200 Crypto Stamps are available, making them potentially valuable collectibles for collectors and technology enthusiasts.

The integration of NFTs ensures the security and transparency of the Ghana crypto stamp collection. By using blockchain technology, collectors can verify the authenticity of their stamps through a simple smartphone scan, generating a unique authentication message for each scan. This process effectively combats counterfeiting and safeguards the integrity of each collectible.

Through a simple smartphone scan, collectors can verify the stamp’s authenticity in real-time, with each scan generating a unique, one-time authentication message, safeguarding against tampering and counterfeit attempts, the website said

With the release of these NFTs, Ghana has become the first African country to release a commemorative stamp collection on the blockchain.

Also, the Ghana Post’s catalog features the new crypto stamp as the priciest stamp, surpassing the cost of other stamps by more than double.

The Ghana Post store additionally provides a unique gold frame stamp that is available for a personal consultation, priced at approximately 100,000 cedis ($7200).

Ghana is making strides in incorporating cryptocurrency and blockchain technology into its system, while Nigeria, its West African counterpart, is moving in the opposite direction.
