Nigerian Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris has gifted 24 Toyota luxury vehicles to members of the State House of Assembly.
Idris, who governs Kebbi, a northwestern state in Nigeria, described the vehicles as first-class jeeps.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Idris noted that the vehicles were a form of appreciation to the lawmakers.
The post read: I am honored to fulfill my promise by distributing 24 First Class Toyota Jeeps to the dedicated members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly for their official engagements. Today, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, I personally presented these vehicles, expressing gratitude for the Assembly’s cooperation and understanding. The harmonious working relationship between the Executive Arm and the Assembly has been paramount.
In the spirit of collaboration, I joined the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usman Muhammad Ankwe, in a test drive of the Jeep allocated to him. Let this be a symbol of our commitment to serving the people of Kebbi State diligently.
Why this matters…
The disclosure of the purchase of the vehicles has been met with heavy criticism, as many people described it as reckless in the face of hunger, and hardship in Nigeria.
Fintech Telex understands that following President Bola Tinubu’s policies of floating of naira, and removing subsidy, the prices of goods significantly skyrocketed, a development that further plunges many people into abject poverty.

In Jos, where Irish Potatoes is cultivated, a bag of Irish Potatoes which earlier cost N25,000 now sells for N40,000.
Kebbi last year listed among the poorest states in Nigeria. According to Statistica, the state had a 50.2% poverty rate.
As seen in the report, Kebbi State grapples with inadequate infrastructure, including limited road networks, electricity access, and healthcare facilities. These deficiencies impede business growth and hinder the state’s capacity to lure foreign investments.
Public money for “first class” luxury while the people God has allowed to be under you are dying of hunger.

Same Kebbi, often overlooked, heavily dependent on FAAC funds from the federal government.
Its indigenes are rarely heard in prosperous endeavors. Always between 32-36 in rankings that depict poverty and low standard of living
This state barely generates 9billion annually in IGR and that’s is heavily dependent on their collaboration with Lagos State government for rice
High level of poverrt and you get into power and decide enriching yourselves is the way….
You go out to fulfill a promise of cars??? don’t loud it, I know you meant bribe.
Quick question, what promise have you fulfilled to the populace?
I don’t empathize for Kebbi state people. I don’t pity them too. Northern elites live off knowing the masses are poor making it easy to entice them.
