Numerous universities in the United States may mandate that applicants submit credential evaluations via organizations such as WES (World Education Services) to determine the comparability of international educational credentials, while certain institutions may not impose this condition.

With so many Nigerian students looking for opportunities to do their masters in the USA, it can be challenging to pay for a WES Evaluation.

However, with careful research, you can find some universities in the USA that do not require the WES.

A Brief Explanation Of What WES Is All About

World Education Services (WES) is an organization that helps people pursue their educational and professional dreams around the world. Established in 1971, WES has been a pioneer of credential evaluation and advisory services. It is dedicated to helping international students and professionals gain access to education opportunities by providing reliable and trusted sources of information.

WES evaluates academic documents from over 200 countries, allowing people to take advantage of educational credentials they have earned elsewhere while giving colleges and universities assurance of the value of these credentials when making admissions decisions. They also provide helpful advice on immigration processes involved with studying abroad.

In the case of Nigeria, Transcripts can be electronically transferred from Nigerian academic institutions to any institution in the USA or Canada through Wes. Wes has been a reliable and secure online portal that facilitates the electronic transfer of student records or documents between institutions.

WES Transcript Evaluation

The WES evaluation of transcript means a conversion of academic credentials from any country in the world to their equivalents in the USA. It defines each certificate, diploma, or degree you have earned or received and specifies its academic equivalency in the USA. Thus, as Nigerian students processing studying in the United States, the WES evaluation makes sure that your academic credentials and certificates are recognized there.

Understanding Unofficial Transcripts and WES Evaluation

Before delving into the universities that accept HND transcripts without WES evaluation, it’s essential to grasp the difference between unofficial and WES-evaluated transcripts. An unofficial transcript has not been evaluated by WES but is uploaded directly by you on the intended university’s admission portal. It is considered unofficial as long as you upload it, irrespective of whether it carries a “student copy” watermark or not.

On the other hand, the World Education Services (WES) is an organization that aids individuals in pursuing their educational and professional dreams worldwide. WES evaluates academic documents from over 200 countries, converting academic credentials from any country into their USA equivalents. It ensures that Nigerian students’ academic certificates and credentials are recognized when applying to US institutions.

Requirement For Masters In The US

HND for Masters: One of the requirements of many universities in the United States of America (USA) is the acceptance of transcripts and World Education Services (WES) from international students. Most Nigerian students who wish to further their education in the United States but possess Higher National Diploma Certificates often feel marginalized and inferior to their countrymen who possess bachelor’s degrees.

It was gathered that some universities do not need the World Education Services Evaluation (WES) but only the unofficial Higher National Diploma (HND) transcripts.

As published on his X handle (formerly Twitter), a scholarship consultant, Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, listed out universities that don’t require WES evaluation but only accept HND for masters in the United States. He additionally listed universities that accept WES evaluations and HND transcripts.
