President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to preside over the forthcoming National Honours Award ceremony, an event dedicated to recognizing Nigerians and friends of the nation who have made significant contributions to the country’s development. This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to celebrating excellence across various sectors.
The National Honours Award, established to acknowledge individuals who have excelled in their respective fields, will see a transparent nomination and selection process. Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo, emphasized that the forms and procedures for the awards are free of charge, cautioning the public against any fraudulent schemes related to the honours. He stated, “The forms and processes leading to the award of national honours are free of charge. People should not pay for national honours.”
Among the distinguished individuals to be honoured is Dr. Bright Enabulele, the 2024 Edo governorship aspirant, recognized for his contributions to governance, leadership, and community development. His inclusion in the honours list reflects his dedication to public service and efforts toward the betterment of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
In addition to the National Honours, President Tinubu has been recognized for his environmental initiatives. He was named Nigeria’s highest promoter of environmental health by the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON). This accolade was conferred during the inaugural National Environmental Health Excellence Award (NEHEA) held at the Banquet Hall, State House, Asokoro, Abuja. At the event, President Tinubu unveiled the National Environmental Health Practice Regulations (NEHPR) 2025, aimed at strengthening environmental health governance in the country. He also launched the Premises-based National Greenhouse Gases Emission Monitoring Programme (NGHGEMP), an initiative designed to track emissions at the premises level and support Nigeria’s climate action goals.
Furthermore, President Tinubu’s international engagements have highlighted his commitment to sustainability and global collaboration. He attended the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Opening Ceremony and the Zayed Sustainability Prize Award Ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, joining other world leaders in discussions aimed at promoting sustainable development worldwide.
The upcoming National Honours Award ceremony is anticipated to be a significant event, bringing together distinguished individuals from various sectors to celebrate their contributions to Nigeria’s progress. The public will soon be invited to submit nominations for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication to the nation’s advancement. This inclusive approach ensures that the awards truly reflect the diverse achievements of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
As preparations for the ceremony continue, the administration remains focused on fostering a culture of excellence and recognition, reinforcing the values that drive national development and unity.
