Clusterlab, a Tunisian and UAE-headquartered AI (artificial intelligence) startup has raised six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) in a pre-seed funding round from regional investors.

The funding was led by Karim Beguir, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of a Tunisian AI company, InstaDeep, and other regional investors.

Clusterlab is a company that created an Arabic audiobook summarization app, Reedz to improve the acceptability and accessibility of Arabic in Africa.

The Tunisian tech startup is a frontrunner in developing artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) technologies.

Clusterlab’s expertise is widely acknowledged, notably demonstrated through their collaboration with InstaDeep on a significant national AI initiative for Tunisia’s Ministry of Higher Education.

Additionally, their inclusion in the esteemed Nvidia Inception Program for AI startups further solidifies their reputation in the industry.

This strong commitment to collaborative efforts highlights Clusterlab’s unwavering dedication to harnessing AI advancements for the betterment of society and education.

Speaking about the impact of Clusterlab, Haithem Kchaou, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer said,

“Our expertise in technology goes beyond the current wave of large language models. “We’ve been pioneers in utilising NLP to revolutionise content summarization well before it became mainstream.”

Reechoing Kchaou‘s thought, Chehir Dhaouadi, the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder spoke about the impact of the recent funding on the company. He said,

“The coming months hold immense potential. We’re eager to showcase the depth of our technological advancements to the public, particularly through the large-scale deployment of our AI solutions.”

Established in 2020, Clusterlab is committed to leveraging AI to positively impact social and educational domains.

What Does This Funding Mean For Tunisia’s Clusterlab?

The infusion of funding will play a pivotal role in propelling Clusterlab’s research and development forward, particularly in advancing their next-generation large language model (LLMs).

This strategic investment will not only bolster Clusterlab’s technological capabilities but also fuel its quest to enhance natural language processing (NLP) capabilities significantly.

The startup has articulated that these advanced LLMs will be instrumental in unlocking new frontiers in NLP, thereby refining the user experience across their suite of products like Elm (an AI-powered learning app) and Reedz ( a mobile app providing audiobook summaries of the world’s best selling books).

With a focus on innovation and cutting-edge technology, ClusterLab is poised to make significant strides in revolutionizing the landscape of language models and NLP applications.

The company is on a mission to transform the landscape of Arabic content creation and consumption by utilising Large Language Models (LLMs) and artificial intelligence (AI).

The core objective is to enhance accessibility and engagement, catering to users globally and making Arabic content more immersive and interactive.

This establishes Clusterlab’s proactive approach in venturing into unexplored territories of Natural Language Processing (NLP) even before they became mainstream, positioning them with a competitive advantage in the industry and Africa.

Speaking about the investment Kchaou said that the AI funding space

“has never been this noisy, and cutting through the noise is crucial.”

At the event, he shared some advice for entrepreneurs in this space. In his words,

“The first step is demonstrating a solution to a real-world problem, not just deploying AI for the sake of it, and this builds credibility among potential investors and partners. By focusing on a tangible problem and showcasing the team’s established capabilities, founders become the signal and not the noise. That’s how they can attract investors seeking impactful AI solutions.”

Clusterlab is set to break boundaries in Africa’s tech space with innovation that will be created with this round of funding.

Africa’s educational system can be transformed with the use of AI and Clusterlab is proving that.
