Edo governorship aspirant Dr. Bright Enabulele has vehemently condemned the tragic killing of Danjuma Emokpaire, a farmer, in the Ubune-Ivbiaro community of Owan-East Local Government Area of the state.

The brutal murder of Emokpaire, according to Dr. Enabulele, once again highlighted the pervasive insecurity plaguing Nigeria, exacerbating food shortages and threatening the livelihoods of countless households across the nation.

Expressing his dismay in a series of tweets via his handle, @NanaObudadzie, on Monday, March 11, 2024, Dr. Enabulele stated, “the killing of Emokpaire is not just a loss to his family and community but a stark reminder of the grave security challenges facing our nation. It is deeply distressing to witness such senseless violence claiming innocent lives, particularly those of hardworking farmers who play a crucial role in sustaining our food supply.”

Dr. Enabulele stressed that the incident in Ubune-Ivbiaro underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the root causes of insecurity and restore peace and stability in Nigeria. He, therefore, emphasised the critical importance of protecting farmers and agricultural workers, whose invaluable contributions are essential to the nation’s food security and economic prosperity.

“Insecurity threatens not only the lives and livelihoods of farmers but also jeopardizes our nation’s ability to feed its people and achieve sustainable development,” Enabulele remarked. “Attacks on farmers like Danjuma Emokpaire not only result in tragic loss of life but also contribute to food shortages and hunger in many households.”

Emokpaire’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the community of Ubune-Ivbiaro and beyond, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for justice. He expressed solidarity with the grieving family and urged relevant authorities to expedite investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Emokpaire during this difficult time. No words can adequately convey the depth of our sorrow for their loss,” Dr. Enabulele stated. “We demand that those responsible for this heinous crime be apprehended and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

The tragic killing of Emokpaire, however, comes amid growing concerns about the escalating insecurity across Nigeria, with farmers and rural communities bearing the brunt of targeted attacks and violence. Dr. Enabulele underscored the need for proactive measures to enhance security and protect vulnerable populations from the scourge of criminality and lawlessness.

“Insecurity undermines our collective efforts to build a prosperous and equitable society. It erodes trust in government institutions and threatens the social fabric of our communities,” Enabulele emphasized. “We must prioritize the safety and well-being of all Nigerians, particularly those who are most vulnerable to the impacts of insecurity.”

As Nigeria grapples with the complex challenges of insecurity, Dr. Enabulele called for unity and collaboration among stakeholders at all levels to confront the root causes of violence and instability. He maintained that holistic approaches are important to addressing the underlying socio-economic factors driving conflict and promote inclusive development and peacebuilding initiatives.
